Our Heritage 

The band first came together in the 1970s, founded by four lifelong friends united by a deep passion for American music. What began as a shared love for playing and creating soon evolved into a lasting musical journey spanning decades. Rooted in tradition yet driven by creativity, our sound continues to honour the spirit of our beginnings while embracing the energy of today.

Over the past year, The Southern Rock Band have taken this sound into some of the UK's most respected live rooms, including the Ritz Manchester, Holmfirth Picturedrome, The Docks Academy and Birdwell Venue — venues where the sound has to be real and the performance has to deliver. Night after night, it does.

They have also worked alongside Eric Bell Original Thin Lizzy Founder, and Nashville songwriter Brian Grilli, a collaborator with Skynyrd and Blackberry Smoke and a contributor to the hit US TV series Sons of Anarchy. On one memorable occasion, live recordings from The Southern Rock Band were sent directly to Blackberry Smoke in real time via Grilli — the response came straight back, and it was resoundingly positive.

A Tribute to one of our Founding Members

 

In 2020, we sadly lost one of our founding members, the great John Troughton. John’s passion for music his dedication to playing, writing, and shaping our sound remains the heartbeat of the band. His influence continues to guide us, keeping us grounded, united, and inspired.That legacy lives on powerfully through his son, Tom, who grew up learning his love for music at his dad’s side. John was Tom’s idol then, and he remains his greatest inspiration today carrying forward the spirit and soul his dad poured into every note.
